This award has been established by the APIC Indiana Board of Directors to honor the legacy of Susan Kraska, past president who always asked for the evidence and science behind the decisions that the Infection Preventionist (IP) makes each day in their practice. This awardee (IP) will be supported by funding and mentorship of an expert level IP who has conducted previous research and published in peer reviewed journals to assist the awardee in their journey.

Criteria

  • One award will be provided per calendar year as funds allow.
  • The recipient must be a current member of APIC Indiana.
  • Required documentation - Project abstract describing in 500 words or less the research question and potential impact on infection prevention and patient care.
  • Abstract must include a well-defined PICOT question:

                P – Problem
                 I – Intervention
                C – Comparison group (could be comparing project data to previous year’s data)
                O – Outcome (hypothesis)
                T – Timeline for project completion

  • Award recipient will be required to submit an abstract for presenting the project findings (oral or poster presentation) at APIC national conference or present project findings at APIC Indiana educational conference, and / or publish study results in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Executive committee will select recipient based on number of applications and relevance to current infection prevention trends and needs. Consultative guidance will be provided to recipient based on proposed subject matter and available resources.
  • Award amount will fluctuate to meet project need but will not exceed $1000. All expenses over $100 will be paid by the treasurer when possible to the vendors and any under will be reimbursed upon receipt to the treasurer.
  • Recipient may only receive award once.

 

The deadline for submission for this award is September 14th.  The recipient of this award will be notified by the APIC Indiana President and shared with chapter members during the APIC Indiana Fall Conference if possible.
